Sail and Sport's 20th Anniversary
It was 20 years ago in August I signed
my first rent check for Performance Sail and Sport at the Port location
of Mullet Dr.
The
2011, 14th Annual Hiram's Haul Results:
What
a Record Breaking Weekend it was!
The
first non-spinnaker start was a Northern, rain-soaked, 8-10 knts. Warren
Green had a flawless start with Amy Bilder taking numbers. For the next
hour the wind gradually built and the clouds slowly lifted, leaving us
with the second spinnaker start partly sunny, blowing 10-15 knts. and
maintaining a north direction. With plenty of gybing practice and several
capsizes the boats started arriving at the finish just over 2 hours later.
This makes for a difficult transition for the committee and ground crews
to pack-up, drive 40 minutes and unpack in time for the arrival of the
first boat which happened to be Dave Ingram on his new F18. The next to
finish and winning the "Peoples Choice Award" was Matt McDonald
on (or mostly on) his Falcon F16 after a spectacular grounding and capsize

it is about 4 minutes into the video.
The
next day started with a Northeastern wind of 20-25 knts. With a less than
impressive start the fleet was off for a record breaking close-reach,
uphill ride to the finish at Performance Sail and Sport some 30 miles
away. The first to finish was Karl Langefeld on his Nacra F18 Infusion
in a record breaking 1:34:17. This broke John Casey's record by just under
one minute.
