ANNOUNCING PERFORMANCE SAIL AND SPORT'S World Wave Federation "Arena Sailing" "Short Course" Friday Night Series And the Winner Is: Matt McDonald Since our viewing public has grown with the opening of Grills Tiki Bar next door we are changing our race format to a new shorter experimental course, designed to be closer and more exciting for the spectators. The new course will have much shorter legs with 2 short windwards, one short leeward and 2 longer reaches for excitement. We call it "Arena Sailing". If you are interested in joining the fun we will meet here at Performance Sail and Sport at 5pm every friday in August and race till dark (rain-outs will be added at the end). The cost is $40 if you have your own boat and that includes on-site storage for the series. We will be chartering our boats nightly for $40 for each of the series nights (thats 3 hours for the price of one hour). Sign-up soon
Our final day of the series was great fun with the winds at a steady 15 to gusting over 20 mph. The southerly direction of the wind made a more effective start from the beach with an upwind leg to an offset mark. We had Matt McDonald, Mark Herendeen, Kent Cooper, Scott Hubel, Brian Karr and Drey Willis with Ethan Frederick subbing the last 2 races. There was a lot of hull flying with near and even closer misses. The final leg had our traditional Grill's Fly-By with only a few misadventures, see our "Peoples Choice Award" below. This week we had our "Peoples Choice Award" shared by Brian Karr and Matt McDonald for a spectacular capsize by Matt and then a head-on collision by Brian directly after the fly-by. As Brian was driving Matt perilously close to Grill's dock Matt was able to right his boat with only a toenail touching the water. With a standing ovation of whistles and rucuos cheer the crowd at Grill's showed their appreciation. Brian may have had it all on his newly mounted cameras, lets wait and see. We will skip a week and restart a new WWF series race Friday August 6th and end Sept. 3rd. We will be chartering boats nightly for this event so get on our list. Hope for wind.
